Chairman Emeritus
Jules Heumann—“J.” to his many friends throughout the automotive world—has been a guiding light to this Concours for more than three decades. J. and Lorin Tryon served together as Co-Chairmen of this event from 1972 through 1998, elevating the Pebble Beach Concours to its premier status. After Lorin’s death in early 1999, J. continued to serve as Chairman for another year. He added the word Emeritus to his title in the year 2000 but remains an active advisor.
A recognized authority on Hispano-Suizas and president of the Hispano-Suiza Society, J.’s 1922 Hispano-Suiza H6B Labourdette Skiff/Torpedo won Best of Show at Pebble Beach in 1972, and his 1933 Hispano-Suiza J12 Van Vooren Faux Cabriolet was named Most Elegant Car in 1978. He has also won several class awards and has served as a Judge.
Though quite devoted to this event, J. has helped to organize numerous other automotive meets, tours, and concours, including the Peacock Gap Concours d’Elegance, which became the Silverado Concours d’Elegance. And J. was the first president of The Candy Store.
Prior to his retirement, J. was chief designer and co-owner of Metropolitan Furniture Corporation.
