Pebble Beach Motoring Classic

As many as 30 collector cars will undertake the ultimate road trip this August, tracing 1,500 scenic miles from Seattle, Washington, to Pebble Beach, California, and arriving just in time for Pebble Beach Automotive Week. To celebrate their arrival, Motoring Classic participants are also invited to take part in several of the official events leading up to the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, held this year on Sunday, August 21 — events that are not open to any other rally participants.

The nine-day journey through the Pacific Northwest on August 8 to 17 winds down through the Cascade Mountains and traces portions of the Pacific Coast, eventually arriving at Pebble Beach, where participants are included in events such as the Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance, as well as Concours kickoff, pre-event and post-show parties. Notable points along the journey include:

• Mount Rainier National Park
• Mount Saint Helens
• Columbia River Gorge
• Eureka, Calif., known for its historic Victorian-era mansions
• California redwood forests
• The Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco

Elegant automobiles manufactured prior to 1968 are invited to participate in the Motoring Classic. One of the most intriguing vehicles from last year was a 1902 Mercedes Simplex “that wowed everybody at the Concours when it finished our event in front of the Lodge at Pebble Beach,” says Tour Master Al McEwan. “People were lining the street to see the world’s oldest Mercedes roll by.

“Our event annually attracts participants from as far away as Australia, Europe and throughout the U.S. Anyone with an appropriate classic automobile can apply to become a part of the Motoring Classic – it’s not just for Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance entrants, although many entrants do participate. They come to prove their cars are not only highly attractive, but also roadworthy.”

The Motoring Classic tour package includes all meals, accommodations and entertainment along the route, as well as entrance to select events normally reserved for Concours entrants and judges during the Pebble Beach Automotive Weekend. For entry information, contact Al McEwan at
