INFINITI Design: Time Changes but DNA Legacy Remains

August 7, 2024

The legacy of INFINITI’s Japanese-inspired Artistry in Motion has been the anchor of the brand’s expression for the last 35 years. While INFINITI continues to evolve its design language to meet the needs of consumers, the DNA remains authentic to the brand.

Join us as we take a trip down memory lane to highlight some of INFINITI’s most notable designs.

INFINITI Q45 First Generation

Q45 First Generation
When the Q45 sedan was introduced in late 1989, INFINITI proved to the automotive world that luxury was less to do with tradition and more to do with thoughtful hospitality – making the driver and passengers feel embraced, secure, and comfortable. The first generation Q45 had a 4.5-liter DOHC 32-valve aluminium-alloy V8 engine, producing 278 horsepower, which took it from 0-60 in 7.2 seconds – providing an exhilarating driving experience that was truly outstanding at the time. The Q45 offered a dramatic exterior style and a spacious, driver-oriented luxury interior.

INFINITI FX50

FX50
There’s no denying that the INFINITI FX models, including the FX50, are truly remarkable. They climbed to the pinnacle of the luxury SUV market and gave the competition something to chase after for years – even now, after all this time, FX models are revered by enthusiasts and consumers.

Since the introduction of the original FX design in 2003, FX’s aggressive styling has served notice of its performance underpinnings with its long hood, stretched wheelbase, short front and rear overhangs. The design’s distinctive side air vents, located behind the front wheels, allow air to flow through the engine compartment and out the side of the vehicle, reducing front end lift.

INFINITI carries the FX series’ long-running legacy of stunning good looks with elegant lines in vehicles like the QX55 that features a low-swept crossover coupe silhouette and striking digital piano key taillights.

INFINITI QX80

QX80
The latest expression of INFINITI’s design legacy is the all-new 2025 INFINITI QX80. This vehicle resets the full-size luxury SUV segment benchmark. It brings together detailed style, intelligently integrated technology and a commanding, effortless driving experience. As the flagship of the lineup and a continuation of INFINITI’s product renaissance, the all-new QX80 caters to passengers in all three rows.

The exterior embodies Artistry in Motion. In front, QX80 wears the newest iteration of the signature INFINITI double-arch grille complementing the illuminated INFINITI emblem – which now has a more three-dimensional appearance. In a nod to the Japanese principle of thoughtful hospitality, the all-new QX80 features a dramatic welcome sequence that includes activation of the available INFINITI Light Path – and flush door handles that automatically extend when approaching the vehicle with the key fob.

In the interior, QX80’s dashboard concept features two 14.3-inch displays. The latest INFINITI InTouch® system comes with Google built-in so that Google Maps, Google Play, and Google Assistant are the latest available to further make the drive comfortable. Available Biometric Cooling, a segment-first technology, helps cool passengers more quickly and effortlessly. An infrared sensor integrated into the vehicle’s headliner detects when a passenger is hot and near-instantly adjusts the temperature and air flow to send cool air to the second row.

You can explore this new expression of INFINITI’s brand DNA and discover the all-new 2025 QX80 and new 2025 QX60 – featuring a more fuel-efficient powertrain – at MotorTrend’s Japanese Automotive Invitational at the Concours Village presented by INFINITI on Sunday, August 18. Learn more.
