Celebrating the First 100 Years of Zagato: The 2019 Pebble Beach Concours will Showcase the Innovative Style that Makes Zagato an Icon

One hundred years back, in 1919, Ugo Zagato founded the coachbuilding company that continues to this day in his name — Carrozzeria Zagato.
It also continues to be owned and operated by the Zagato family and is thriving, making it unique among the many coachbuilders that began in the creative Classic Era between the two great world wars.

“The fact that Zagato remains Zagato is very special,” said Concours Chairman Sandra Button. “We want to honor that accomplishment, highlighting many of Zagato’s greatest creations for the collector car world to celebrate.”

the legacy of Zagato — its early technical creations, its iconic postwar designs, and its ongoing presence — will all be celebrated at the coming Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

Two very full classes of Zagatos will line the Concours competition field on the 18th fairway of Pebble Beach Golf Links, and Andrea Zagato, the grandson of Ugo who now heads Zagato, will be on hand to greet them.

The cars themselves will range from the early lightweight and aerodynamic Zagato Spiders built on Alfa Romeo 6C and 8C chassis that brought success and fame on in great races of the day to postwar “double bubbles” and more recent creations.

The carrozzeria has worked with a multitude of marques, and bodies created for not only Alfa Romeo, but also Maserati, Fiat, Ferrari, AC, Bristol, Lancia, Aston Martin, and Lamborghini will all be showcased.
