The BMW Garmisch concept car was developed by Bertone as an independent design proposal intended to demon-strate the studio’s creativity. “The original idea came from Nuccio Bertone himself who wanted to consolidate our existing relationship with BMW by designing a surprise show car for the 1970 Geneva Motor Show,” remembers Marcello Gandini, who was in charge of Bertone’s design department at the time. “We wanted to create a modern mid-sized coupe that was faithful to BMW’s design language, but that was also more dynamic and even a bit provocative.” After its debut at Geneva, the car was apparently shipped to BMW but somehow vanished.
With the newly recreated Garmisch, completely faithful to the original, BMW pays respect to one of Italy’s most influential car designers and adds an exciting chapter to the company’s history. “Marcello Gandini to me is one of the grandmasters of car design, and his cars always have been an important source of inspiration for my work,” says Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President of BMW Group Design, who has been intrigued by the BMW Garmisch since he first discovered a faded period picture of the car some years ago. “Building the BMW Garmisch for a second time gave us the opportunity to pay tribute to Mr. Gandini, recall one of his lesser-known cars, and highlight Bertone’s stylistic influence on the evolution of BMW design. For me, that alone was reason enough to do this project — filling in the gaps and completing BMW’s history.”

“The BMW Vision M NEXT is a pro-gressive hybrid sports car that makes a very clear and confident statement, in terms of both appearance and interaction,” says Domagoj Dukec, Vice President BMW Design.
The emotion-stirring exterior design clearly announces the BMW Vision Vehicle’s performance potential, borrow-ing styling cues from both classic and contemporary BMW sports cars in the process. The BMW Vision M NEXT draws its inspiration from the iconic BMW Turbo and BMW M1 and adopts a future-focused interpretation of design elements such as the low-slung, wedge-shaped silhouette, gullwing doors, and striking color scheme. The unmistakable sports-car proportions are composed of surfaces characterized by clarity and pared-down styling. As an homage to the 1972 BMW Turbo, the front and rear ends are finished in the matte-neon shade Thrilling Orange, producing a vivid contrast against the exterior’s otherwise silk-matte Cast Silver metallic paintwork.
The driving experience in the BMW Vision M NEXT is every bit as captivating as its exterior looks. The Power PHEV drive system offers the choice between electric all-wheel drive and pure rear-wheel drive, with either all-electric propulsion or the power of a turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine. System output of 600 hp produces a top speed of 186 mph and enables the BMW Vision M NEXT to sprint from zero to 60 mph in under 3 seconds. A BOOST+ mode puts extra power on tap at the push of a button. The maximum range when driving in all-electric mode is 62 miles.

The De Tomaso P72 was designed to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the brand. The P72 is an homage to the original De Tomaso P70. The original P70 was a collaboration between Carroll Shelby and Alejandro de Tomaso and is one of many untold chapters of De Tomaso history.
The P72 evokes the spirit of Alejandro de Tomaso, the brand, and the eras that this car represents. A true modern-day time machine, the P72 will create a new segment in today’s market. A segment for those who have been yearning for a modern-day classic — one that is not only dressed with a timeless shape and an unspeakable elegance, but one that will provide a grand touring experience, making you feel as if you are back in the 1960s.
The design of the P72 is inspired by early ’60s racing prototypes — the Sport 1000, Sport 2000 and P70, some of the initial cars that were developed by De Tomaso.
The P72 is based on the state-of-the-art all-carbon chassis from the Apollo IE. It is the first all-carbon fiber production chassis of its kind, consisting of the monocoque, as well as subframes and crash structures that adhere to respective FIA LMP safety requirements, and featuring a carbon mono-cell.
The P72 will remain highly exclusive; only 72 cars will be produced.

The Ford GT Mk II has been co-developed by Ford Performance and Multimatic based on competitive learnings from Ford’s successful FIA World Endurance Championship and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship campaigns with the Ford GT race car. Yet the Mk II is engineered independent of race series rules and limitations.
Like the original 1966 Ford GT40 Mk II race cars, the new Mk II is focused around aerodynamic and engine improvements and shares key features with both the Ford GT road car as well as the race car. Many of its components have been track-proven in the world’s most challenging endurance racing events.
An all-new front racing splitter and diffuser are incorporated along with
new fender louvers and dive planes that help balance the extra rear downforce. These aggressive aerodynamics generate more than 400 percent more downforce than the road car.
The Mk II features the 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine that powers both the race car and the road car, but because the Mk II is not limited by any race-sanctioning body, it is able to generate 200 horsepower more than the restricted race car.
A further feature is a high capacity air-to-air outboard-mounted charge air cooler with water spray technology. The water spray automatically activates in high temperature situations to provide cooling by applying atomized water on the charge air cooler, allowing a consistent level of power at high temperatures.
The Mk II is limited to 45 vehicles

The Genesis Mint Concept is a vision for a Genesis car for the city — with a scaled-down interpretation of the signature brand aesthetic. Inside and out, the Mint Concept posits an expanded definition of Genesis design cues adapted for a two-door, two-passenger city car. The challenge in creating the Mint Concept, a lightweight runabout, was to reimagine the iconic shape of the city car, tailored to the needs of a modern lifestyle.
The Genesis Mint proves that luxury doesn’t have a size. At the global launch of the Mint Concept in New York, Manfred Fitzgerald, Executive Vice President and
Global Head of the Genesis Brand, said, “As a brand, Genesis embraces progressive design values, and the Mint Concept reinforces this commitment from a previously undiscovered perspective.”
Finished in Hunter Green matte paint, the Mint Concept beautifully stretches a three-box design to the corners with extremely short front and rear overhangs. Like a carefully furnished city dwelling constrained by space requirements, the Mint Concept takes advantage of every cubic inch of its interior. Intuitive user experience was a key design constraint. The cozy space for two is made to feel expansive through the use of lightweight textiles, cognac leather, and mullion-free windows. The versatility of the Mint Concept extends to the design and engineering of its high-density, battery-electric powertrain, which is capable of an estimated 200 miles per full charge and 350-kW fast recharging.

The Gunther Werks 993 is a modernand respectful homage to the Porsche 993’s iconic air-cooled heritage, remas-tered from the chassis up utilizing modern technology to create the ultimate analog 911.
The Gunther Werks 993 was recently tested at the historic WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, where it put down a blistering lap time of 1:33.10, setting benchmark performance standards for an air-cooled Porsche.
This concept’s exoskeleton showcases the extensive use of carbon fiber technology implemented for the purposes of reducing the weight and stiffness of the vehicle. The exterior carbon fiber weave is hand-laminated in a V pattern where particular attention is paid to ensuring that intersecting body panels match. This exterior body option takes 800 hours to perfect! There is also extensive use of carbon within the interior, which features custom-built carbon bucket seats, rear seat delete panels, door panels and other lightweight components.
The chassis has been redeveloped and retuned from the ground up. The goal was to widen the track for maximum lateral grip while also squaring up the front track with the rear, utilizing the outer suspension mounting points used by the Porsche race cars.
The power plant is a 4.0-liter, naturally aspirated, air-cooled 6-cylinder engine producing over 425 hp at 7,800 rpm with 330 lb/ft of torque.
The ultimate focus was to develop a track-competent car that can be comfortably driven daily on the street and that exhibits modern classical design.

Project Black S, a collaborative venture between INFINITI and the Renault F1® Team, is a testbed for new ideas, focused on developing innovative technologies for an electrified future.
Based on the INFINITI Q60 Red Sport400 sports coupe and its VR30 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, the F1®-inspired dual-hybrid system combines supersport performance with smart energy man-agement. With 563 hp — 41% more than the Q60 Red Sport 400 — the prototype can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in under four seconds.
Project Black S demonstrates INFINITI’s commitment to developing high-performance electrified powertrains. While still a prototype, this dual-hybrid Energy Recovery System is a world first, harvesting both heat and kinetic energy under braking and acceleration. By intelligently scavenging and recycling energy, the hybrid performance from the Project Black S powertrain would be smart, sustained, and utterly satisfying to deploy.

The Karma SC1 Vision Concept is a signpost to Karma’s future — one that
recognizes and embraces full electrifica-tion. The roadster reimagines Karma design language for tomorrow and soon-to-come customization options, and it shows the brand’s future direction based on full BEV (battery electric vehicle) offerings at the company’s core.
At the heart of the SC1 Vision Concept’s technological suite is a new infotainment architecture with 5G connectivity as well as a humanized communication system, which integrates touch, voice, eye, and graphical interfaces to enable seamless interaction with the roadster. Thanks to eight radars, six lidar sensors, and a half dozen external cameras, the vehicle will be capable of Level 4 fully autonomous driving.
Aviation influenced every aspect of the Karma SC1 Vision Concept, including its interior. The two curved screens in front of driver and passenger, as well as the two OLED touchscreens embedded in each door panel that control climate settings and seating position, are inspired by an airplane cockpit. Karma created an interior cradle that looks like it’s made from a one-piece mold, then sculpted it down to achieve simpler, more appealing forms. As a result, the SC1 Vision has an expertly layered interior that feels airy, snug, and cocooning.
SC1 is a statement-making styling exercise and an homage to Karma’s California home. It’s built for the strong-willed people the company shares its heritage with. Its design will impact all future production Karmas, and its charming features and jewels are being considered for the brand’s growing customization library.

Preparations continue briskly for Porsche’s first race in Formula E, the all-electric race series. Since officially announcing in April 2018 that it would enter the 2019/2020 ABB FIA Formula E world championship, the sports car manufacturer has already achieved a number of key milestones — with more to follow.
The development of the powertrain is central to the Porsche factory entry and is a decisive competitive factor. In an effort to help entrants control costs, a standard chassis and battery are part of the Formula E series strategy, but all drive components are the manufacturers’ concepts. This gives Porsche the opportunity to pursue its own path in developing key technologies, including electric engine, inverter, brake-by-wire system, transmission, differential, driveshafts and suspension components attached to the rear axle, as well as the cooling system and control unit.
“When I look back over recent months, I am very proud of what we have achieved within the team,” said Fritz Enzinger, Vice President Porsche Motorsport. “We have successfully completed the first steps: the first test phase for the Porsche powertrain on the test bench, the announcement of Neel Jani as the first driver, the construction of the Porsche Formula E car, rolling this out on the test track in Weissach, and completing more than 1,000 kilometers of testing at Circuit Calafat in Spain. While we still have plenty to do before the works entry in Formula E, we are confident that we are on the right track.”
