Derek Hill
Santa Monica, California
Derek Hill first stepped to the microphone at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in 2014, and he was invited to be our Master of Ceremonies the following year.
Derek has a long history with cars and with this Concours. He is the son of America’s first World Driving Champion, Phil Hill, and he has been in attendance at this Concours since birth, more recently showing a car and serving among our Class Judges.
Like his father, Derek initially pursued a career in motorsports, ultimately earning class wins at the 24 Hours of Daytona, the 12 Hours of Sebring and many other races, most often driving for the factory BMW M3 team. After winning championships in junior-level open wheel racing in North America, Derek moved to Europe and drove his way to the FIA International F3000 championship, the junior league for Formula One. Then, when his father became ill, Derek returned home to be with him.
More recently, Derek has focused on precision driving on road and track as well as on screen, and he is perhaps most known and most recognized for his driving in GM’s ad campaign launching the Cadillac’s compact luxury sedan, the ATS. He has also pursued historic racing, often driving a 1962 Maserati, garnering two podium finishes at the Goodwood Revival and the Le Mans Classic, and winning the 2015 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion. Derek has also competed for Maserati in the Global Trofeo Series at Road America, handily earning pole position and then winning the race.Derek and his wife Courtney live a very active life, and they currently split their time between Santa Monica and Carpenteria, where Courtney is starting her own specialty vegetable farm.
